What’s up world? I’m back in business.
I know you probably had no idea I was even out of business because, well, I’m a shit blogger.
I started this blog a little over a year ago while I was moping around in my parents’ house trying to find a job after undergrad. One of my big personal goals was to regularly blog once I was out of college. I built this beautiful website and did blog a bit, but definitely didn’t become a blogger.
Well, I finally got a job, moved to New Orleans and my new job consumed my life for the first three months. I lost a lot of motivation to write.
When I finally started feeling passionate about writing again…something weird was happening on my website. Every time I would go to my website, it would redirect to spam. I thought maybe my computer had a virus because it wasn’t every time I went to my website…but then it was happening on other people’s phones too…and then it started happening more frequently. When I realized my website was hacked it was too far gone at that point…it had probably been hacked for months and I was terrible at keeping backups of my website (ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR DAMN WEBSITES). I tried everything I could to save it, but I couldn’t figure it out. So, I wiped everything on my server and rebuilt everything from scratch.
I didn’t really think about how I built this website originally with a buttload of free time because, well, unemployment. Rebuilding this website with a demanding full time job that leaves you exhausted every evening took a lifetime. On top of that, I was intent on keeping my old theme, but I ran into a few more hiccups and, again, said fuck it and redesigned it completely–which I really like btw.
That’s all behind me now and my baby is back up and running!
Hopefully this’ll be the time where I actually consistently blog. I get very wrapped up in my mind about my writing needing to be grand and perfect…but that’s not what this is about and I need to be okay with it not being that and instead just doing it consistently rather than perfectly. I’m also going to use this paragraph to thank my friend Nadia for actually constantly asking me about my blog–without her I would not have had the motivation to rebuild this blog…so you have her to thank.
I have a lot of exciting ideas in the works for this blog. I just got back from France and Spain so I plan to write a lot about that. I’m also constantly reminiscing on my magical time in the Middle East last year so I’ll definitely have some posts about that coming at you. ALSO! I’m going to be food blogging more and plan to set up a separate entity within this website for all my recipes and musings about food. For that food blog I’m working on a series about food and identity which I’m so excited for you all to see and read.
I’m really excited to get back into things and I’m excited if you’re reading this. Thanks for all the support, everyone!
Cheers to new beginnings!
